Bright Ideas Workshops

Hands-on
Experimenting and Inventing
Be An Experimenter... We'll Show You How!
Experimenting
is, without question, a fun and powerful way to gain knowledge. Great
delight may be found from the discoveries made through one's own
experimentation. There are many areas of science that intrigue and mystify
us, areas that we would like to explore but never get around to, due to
the lack of equipment or the necessary knowledge to even get started.
Additionally, many Christian parents are concerned that certain secular
values creep into the curriculum.
Bright Idea's Science Experimenters Labs take away these road
blocks and give parents an adventuresome, fail-safe environment for their
children to enjoy science. Specific discoveries are available from a broad
menu of disciplines including anatomy, archaeology, astronomy, chemistry,
ecology, electronics/electricity, energy, geology/fossils, meteorology,
optics, physics, robotics, rocketry and telemetry. Children have their own
menus scaled by ability groups, with third through fifth graders choosing
"Imagineers" experiments and sixth through eighth graders
choosing from an "Inventors" menu. It is also possible to have
"Senior" sessions for retirees.
Churches and schools are invited to host these stimulating workshops,
which are based on Christian values and are evolution-free. Fees cover
tools, safety devices and instructors. Sessions are one and a half to two
hours long depending on the subject with groups of twelve or less. Morning
and early afternoons may be scheduled for home schoolers and late
afternoon and early evening open for school children.

"Say Cheese" - Photo Workshops
Kids universally desire to use a camera and make pictures. Many times however, their
first efforts are discouraging because they don't know how to use the camera. In
these
workshops, each young person starts out taking a Polaroid picture. They learn how a camera
works, and are taught the art of
framing good pictures and selecting interesting subjects. Each child receives his own
disposable flash camera and creates a photo story. Kids in scouting will learn everything
needed for their photography badges.

Lights, Camera, Action! - Video Production workshops
Kids
love to make movies and when given opportunity are very creative.
Lights, camera action gives them the skills to make simple videos. In
these workshops, they learn to make a story board, operate a TV camera,
use a tripod, follow action by panning, properly frame subjects, establish
good lighting, record clear sound, make graphics and edit tapes. Each
group devises their own subject/story. They act it out together, film it
and edit it. Every participant brings home their own copy of the final
tape plus the expertise to make their own.

The Great Outdoors
Bright Ideas also
offers outdoor experiences for the uninitiated. Specialty weekend camp outs focused on the
environment, natural wonders, and energy are available in the spring and fall. Likewise,
there are video and photography week-ends at prime locations.
Invention Conventions
Bright Ideas sponsors "Invention Conventions" to encourage
inventiveness and creativity. Inventions are displayed and judged with prizes awarded.
Winners go on to regional and national events.
